What is a Specialist?
The “Specialist” title can only be used if a dentist has been recognised by other members of the profession to have a higher degree of training and experience in that particular field of dentistry. With a vast amount of research carried out globally every year, along with many new technology innovations, dentistry covers a huge area.
After acquiring a basic dental degree in general dentistry, dentists can undertake further postgraduate training and qualifications to specialise in different fields of dentistry such as: Orthodontics, restorations (implants, cosmetic, crown and bridgework, dentures), tooth straightening, children’s dentistry, root fillings, extractions, minor oral surgery, gum treatment and maxillo-facial surgery.
